Through One Cause UK, Jaspar Foundation sponsored a hair dressing training course at Auro Technical College, Tororo in Uganda.

Empowering more women in the community with practical skills helps to support them to become self-sufficient.

Jaspar Foundation’s donation has provided modern tools such as electric shavers, salon range hair dryers, hair steamers, machine sterilization stores, manicure and pedicure machines and so much more. The equipment greatly enhances the ability for students to learn in a practical environment. The students work from their homes and move door to door in their communities working on clients. This has been particularly useful during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they have been able to continue earning money for food and rent.

Concepts covered in the course include hair cutting and styling, hair colouring, braiding and weaving, chemical straightening, sanitation procedures, health and safety and customer care. In addition, Auro also provides classes in English, Dance, Drama, career guidance and counselling as well as financial literacy classes for the students.

Through One Cause UK, Jaspar Foundation has sponsored education for 50 children at Nirvana School in Pondicherry, India.

Our donation has contributed to essential items such as stationery, textbooks, school uniform, shoes, school bags, exam fees, access to computer labs, broadband and fully equipped library facilities and to supplement the teacher’s salaries.

Jaspar Foundation is humbled to support 2 new initiatives run by the University of Cambridge – The Foundation Year Programme and the Get In Programme.

The Foundation Year is the most ambitious widening participation programme to date. This innovative route is designed for a new field of candidates to help them realise their academic potential through a full-time, residential programme fully embedded in the Collegiate University.

It will enable the most talented applicants to be reached, making Cambridge more inclusive and reflective of wider society. The Foundation Year is for academically brilliant students who have faced social and educational disadvantage that has prevented them from realising their full potential. Foundation Year scholars will undertake an academically rigorous course, resulting in a Certificate of Higher Education, which will allow them, after the Foundation Year, to progress straight to an undergraduate University degree at Cambridge. This offers the best possible preparation for the rigours of a Cambridge degree course, broad and in-depth knowledge and understanding as well as an introduction to the ways students learn at Cambridge. Foundation Year students also benefit from being part of the University, including being part of a College community and having full access to all the University’s societies and facilities to pursue various interests. To ensure that no student is deterred by finances, the course is free of charge.

We are proud to be supporting this Programme with our donation going entirely to support Foundation Year scholars, transforming lives and overcoming disadvantage.

The founding principle of St Edmund’s College is to give the opportunity of a Cambridge education to those groups that have previously had barriers to their access. In 2021, we face a complex combination of a lack of awareness, financial barriers, and an assumption that Cambridge is for people who look, or behave, or think a certain way. St Edmund’s is an ideal institution to partner with the Jaspar Foundation to help realise a shared ambition of breaking down those barriers to access, bringing new opportunity to those in need, and continuing to foster a diverse inclusive community that provides the highest quality of education.

The widening participation and access work with the support of charitable foundations, alumni, and other philanthropists, has had a significant impact on access of students from non-traditional backgrounds to St Edmund’s and to Cambridge, and there has been an increase in applications from the under-represented groups supported by these specific awards.

As an organisation, Jaspar Foundation recognises the problem and encourages diversity and inclusion, for the purpose of providing quality education and life-enhancing opportunities for all.

We are proud to be supporting this Programme with our donation going to support Get In scholars, nurturing aspiration and removing barriers for disadvantaged students from under-represented ethnic minority groups.

Good relationships shape our health and happiness, but we are taught so little about them. LMK (Let Me Know) is a charity on a mission to change that: providing free workshops and educational experiences to young people on how to build positive, healthy relationships free from abuse. Through the 10 Signs Programme, young people are equipped with tools to spot and stop unhealthy relationship behaviours in themselves and others before they reach levels of abuse. Through Jaspar Foundation’s donation, LMK helped to deliver their educational workshops to 60 diverse young people.

Dignify is a charity currently working on delivering workshops to engage all of Watford’s secondary schools in tackling the relationship crisis that teenagers are experiencing. Young people’s physical, mental, emotional, and relational health is being harmed by the sexualisation of children and the accessibility of sexually explicit material. Dignify will deliver resources and support to young people who will learn how to enjoy healthy online, and offline relationships. The donation by Jaspar Foundation enabled Dignify to build strong foundations within schools through educational workshops, enabling young people to defy the social norms of sexual objectification and harassment.

The Greyfriar’s Scholarship award at Regent’s Park College, Oxford is Jaspar Foundation’s long-term pledge for the next 5 years to help a student (who would struggle to afford postgraduate education), by giving them a chance at pursuing academia. As a Greyfriar’s alumnus, Anup Pankhania wanted to and is honoured to give back to the institution which gave him many opportunities as an undergraduate. The Scholarship this year has been awarded to Maria, who is studying a 2-year course MPhil in Islamic Studies and History, an intensive introduction to Islamic history and thought in the pre-modern period.

Jaspar Foundation feel humbled to support Go Dharmic as a match funder for their £1m virtual fund raising efforts. Go Dharmic aims to provide ‘compassion in action’ through campaigns varying from feeding projects, setting up school libraries in impoverished schools around the world, spreading awareness of hygiene, planting trees and more.
